"Bars & Restaurants with Christmas Decorations"       It's my birthday and I would like to eat and drink while surrounded by pretty Christmas lights and maybe a tree. Can anyone recommend a place on Cap. Hill or downtown that is decked out? The gaudier, the better. Thanks!

I have a feeling I know where this one is going to go, but I'm putting her up, anyway.

Oh, and feel free to explain your choice in the comments section, too.

"small animal cages"       hello everyone, i've got a quick question/request.

i have a rat cage (24 inches long, 15 inches high, 16 inches wide) in my room. i have no place to put it, so it's currently sitting in the middle of my desk, absolutely covering the entire surface. this is a problem, as you can imagine, seeing as whenever i need to do homework or anything like that i either have to move the cage or just set myself up on the floor. but besides that, it's just a plain ugly sight.

how do you guys have your animal cages situated? i'm looking for pictures/suggestions. i have little space, so i'm probably going to have to move things around. i also realize that it's hard to suggest much without knowing the layout of my room, so at this point i'm kind of just looking for something to spark my imagination & give me an idea on where this thing could go.

also, i may just get a big old fishtank at a garage sale & put them in there, so any pictures of aquariums or whatever could work too!

"Twitter-esque"       Except that I really, really love Desert Pepper Trading Company Salsa. Enough to forsake all other brands.

I'd put their logo on my shoes.

Meta Bidoof

We didn't mean to make this Bidoof snapshot so meta.

Soon the quarter will end and the Naples boat parade will begin. This is reason to celebrate.

for aids day i went to donate blood and found out i can't. it was sad.

our recruiter is back from maternity leave and working half days for the next two weeks. i never realised how much i liked having someone around to buy stuff for and who buys stuff for me in terms of food. it's so nice to have that kind of relationship with someone.

my coworkers keep telling me how sad it is that my family isn't visiting and how terrible it is that i'm not going home for the holidays and how sad and lonely it is to spend all that time alone.

i'm not sad or lonely, but i'm pretty tired of people feeling sorry for me over it.

"Alaskan Way self-defense shooting?"       So, this recalled to my mind the guy on Alaskan Way a couple years ago who shot someone and had it ruled self-defense. Unfortunately, my google-fu is weak, and I can't find any references to that earlier case. Help?

"Change in bus transfer use"       Beginning Jan. 1, 2010, only Metro transfers are valid on Metro buses. Also, Metro transfers are not valid on Sound Transit, Pierce Transit and Community Transit buses. If you use more than one transit system you will have to pay a fare each time you board a different bus. If you use an ORCA card that is loaded with a bus pass or E-purse, you will get a two-hour transfer credit for the fare paid.

ORCA cards will cost $5
ORCA cards are available at no charge until Jan. 31, 2010. There will be a $5 charge for an ORCA card beginning Feb. 1, 2010.

Question: I will have to make trips three times a week from Bellevue to Renton...what would be the most cost effective option? in the morning during off peak hours and in the evening during peak hours

I ordered an ORCA card through my company but it costs 99$ for one month for 2 zones (2.50$ value)! I'll have to transfer in Bellevue from SoundTransit to King County Metro I have a number of colleagues who are facing the same problem starting Jan 2010. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

"Missing Small White Westie Dog "       Hello Everyone,

I wanted to forward this Lost Pet notice on behalf of a friend. Her dog, Jessie, has been missing since November 19th from the Skyway area here in Seattle. Jessie is a small Westie, with white fur, and was wearing a black leather collar that held an engraved dog tag. Unfortunately the tag was later found on my friend's property detached from its collar.

If you live in Skyway or any of the neighboring areas and have seen a dog like her or think you've found her, please contact my friend at (206) 412-6732 or (206) 327-3436.

Shelters have been checked and posters have been posted but still no luck. If you have any suggestions feel free to drop a message. Thanks for looking and please feel free to pass this on. We'd really appreciate it! Her owners are worried sick about her.

Here is a photo of Jessie. )

      "Winter: part 5"       See Part 1; 2; 3; 4;
~~

As the wild geese go south
and the world falls asleep
I wake up slowly from my heated slumber.

I let the cold touch my toes and my knees
I shiver in the morning light
I curl up. I stretch out.
My lungs fill with icy air.

As the animals hide beneath the earth
I thread upon it.
I've never been more awake then when
the snow falls
and silence cover the world.

(winter 2008)

I have a craving inside my stomach for snow and cold. For the smells of winter and bare tree branches.
I feel a little sad and homesick knowing that I won't have any of that this winter. I don't think I miss my home more than when winter and Christmas come around and I'm not there to see it pass.
I want lights in the night and walks in the snow. I want hot chocolate in snowstorms and I even want to be stuck shoveling snow.
I swear, next winter I will be in Canada and I will enjoy every second of it.

For now I will close my eyes and imagine thousands of lights twinkling in the night while I catch snowflakes on my tongue and make angels in the now.

"Tech Support Jobs?"       Does anyone know companies that are hiring for tech support/customer service in the Seattle area right now? I've got experience and I'm looking right now. I've worked for ACS, Earthlink, MSN support (outsourced), and Verio, as well as a few IT positions. I've been out of the game for a while, but can get up to speed quickly and I do fantastic phone support. Mostly I've done first level support, for everything from POS machines to company laptops, but I've also done disaster recovery.

Some companies offer bonuses for referrals so I thought I'd check and see if anyone knows their company is hiring, but hasn't posted a position yet.

so like i've mentioned before, i'm starting a temp job this friday helping out at a program that leads a study abroad trip for HS students every year. they're from a school in yokohama (japan).. about 64 students, and they'll be here for 2 weeks. that is to say, you probably won't see me for 2 weeks, and i can't hang out or anything etc. i'm excited but kind of nervous, mostly because i'm worried about if i'll be able to bond with my girls. i'll be leading a group of 9 girls (some of which MAY or may not be troublemakers), so i have a few questions since a number of you guys ARE teachers...

1) japanese students are a bit different from american ones, but do you have any tips for connecting with HS students? what types of convos/topics do you talk about? what do HS kids like? i pretty much taught JHS and elem so i'm not sure how different HS kids are. as a reference, these girls are about 16 years old.

for those of you who have taught HS kids in japan, what's popular with HS girls right now?

2) i have to buy my students (in advance) individual presents. my budget is $3 each. any idea about something they might like?

3) what kinds of activities, games, etc would be good to do with those kids in free time? i'll be living with them for 2 weeks, and i have to coordinate random activities to do during program 'downtimes' as well... card games? i have no idea!

i'd reaaallly appreciate any insight! it'll probably turn out okay, but i'm definitely one of those people who likes to be overprepared for situations i'm not used to, haha.

onegai shimasu!!!
